Florin ROMAN

Colonel Florin ROMAN has joined the team of the Permanent Mission of Romania to the United Nations as a diplomatic-military representative (Military Adviser with diplomatic rank of Minister-Counselor) on July 05th, 2015.

COL Florin ROMAN is an Army service-man, specialized in CBRN defense, having an active officer career over 25 years. He was initiated the military career as a student of the prestigious Military High School "Dimitrie Cantemir" from Breaza, continued training in the Military School for Active Officers "Nicolae Bălcescu" in Sibiu, on completion of which was advanced to the rank of Lieutenant and full-fledged military studies within the National Defense University "Carol I" in Bucharest. At the same time he graduated from various career courses, for the specific training of the officers, for command and military staff, up to joint level. He also attended specialized training courses, including at the NATO School in Oberammergau, Germany.

He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in “Judicial Sciences" from the Romanian-American University, Bucharest, holds a master degree in "Security and National Defense", by the Command and Staff Faculty of the National Defense University "Carol I", Bucharest, and successfully completed the postgraduate program in “Defense Resources Management for Senior Officials" organized by the Regional Department of Defense Resources Management Studies, Brasov.

COL Florin ROMAN holds expertise in multinational operations, as a project officer for ground forces deployed to Kuwait and Iraq for operation "Iraqi Freedom", and  also for UNAMA compound protection forces in Afghanistan,. In this  context he served for a year as liaison officer at USCENTCOM, Tampa, USA. He participated in numerous multinational exercises held in Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Norway, the Netherlands and Romania, both conducted by NATO and in a regional or bilateral cooperation framework.

Along his career, he has fulfilled command and staff positions at all echelons, from platoon leader, company and battalion commander, to staff officer at brigade or Land Forces Staff level and head of the office at the level of the Land Forces Command and the National Military Command Centre.

COL Florin ROMAN is a military veteran who participated in operation "Iraqi Freedom" and in appreciation of the outstanding behaviour during the performance of military missions he was awarded the following distinctions: Honorary Military Emblem of the General Staff and Honorary Signs "In the Service of the Fatherland" for 15, 20 and 25 years of service.

As a Military Adviser, he coordinates the participation of the Romanian military personnel and close protection officers to the UN peacekeeping missions. He provides counseling for the diplomats of the Permanent Mission on military matters, security and national defense.

Prior to his current position, COL Florin ROMAN carried out the post of Head of Security Structure within the National Military Command Centre.
